A Message from Louis

I am very excited to continue my professional life with the establishment of this office. This initiative comes from asking myself: what would the practice of law be like if I only did what I enjoyed the most? I love advising my clients, working with them through the myriad of business problems that come along, chasing opportunities, celebrating their successes and navigating the setbacks.

And I love being asked to help parties resolve disputes using mediation and arbitration. It is a great privilege to be nominated in these roles, and I strive my best to discharge my responsibilities as best as I can – sharing over three decades of legal and practical experience to help parties come to early resolution in their disputes.

Louis M H Belzil. K.C. Q.Arb

Born and raised in Alberta, Louis received his Economics and Law degrees from McGill University and began practicing law in Edmonton in 1989.

Louis practiced in civil litigation for most of his career. In the past dozen years, he has broadened his practice to include corporate and commercial law, as well as Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has spoken many times at legal and industry conferences on diverse topics.

Louis was honoured to be appointed Queen’s Counsel (now K.C.) in the province of Alberta in 2012. In 2021 he received his Qualified Arbitrator’s designation from the ADR Institute of Canada.

Louis has been a long time contributor to his community. He is particularly proud of his contributions as Chairman of the Sign of Hope Campaign (2004) in support of Canada’s largest social services agency. He has sat on the boards of a seniors’ residence, sporting organization, educational institution as well as volunteering in his faith community. Louis is a proud husband to Terri-Lynne and father of four great daughters. He is a private pilot and enjoys the great outdoors.
